Films
that have failed us in 2016 by Omair Alvi was written a few days back. The
story sounds like that the Pakistani filmmakers are a banned terrorist group
that will lead the Pakistan film industry “taking to a dark, dark place.” It is
not film journalism but looks like a crime reporter is writing about ISIS or
Daesh. The crime report seems to be motivated by money. For two reasons,
apparently;
Number
one, in his apparent greed Omair Alvi forgot to see the calendar, the year 2016
is not yet
over. Such film lists are usually tabulated at the end of the year or in
January of the next year.
Secondly,
such hasty story is nothing but a paid content for which the editor of the
newspaper was taken for a ride. Omair Alvi is a freelance writer but if he
is sponsored by some Pakistani distributors to write dismal reports on
fledgling film industry, it certainly means that he is being pushed to write
reports which show that the Pakistan's cinema is doing pretty bad and those distributors want Indian content. Omair Alvi for the sake of
a handful of pennies is lobbying for the screening of Indian films which are
banned due to a heightened escalation on the Pak-Indian border.
Omair
Alvi has deliberately put the blame on the "Stupid Six" films and it
suggests that a heavy poison he is injected with, in his already toxic
circulatory system is coming from somewhere else. This makes me believe, he's
not a writer but a propaganda artist. Nearly all such films have been chosen
which belong to the Pakistan's biggest distributor alone. This is such a piece
of crass showbiz journalism that has led to the death of many newspapers in the
past and others would not survive if such freelancers keep contributing with
their poison-pen write-ups. Omair don’t bite the hand that feeds you,
Newspapers! You mention in your article that you see “four films every week”
where? On piracy-ridden internet. It’s a big number, do some math! Even not
many Indian films were in cinemas until their ban.
Omair
Alvi on 4th of November, 2016 wrote about one of the "Super 6" stupid
film "Jeewan Haathi;
“Pakistan’s
cinema industry needs innovative films to steer
it
in the right direction and the one-hour-long Jeewan Haathi
(JH)
may be the need of the hour.”
Look
at his poor judgment which is flying in his face. He must read his own comments
before behaving as an authority in the field of cinema. JH was need of the
hour in your opinion and now what was your need?Greed!
For
his another same failed film pick from top six, he had this to say, for
"Teri Meri Love Story";
“We
could tell you to go and watch the film to support the industry.”
Last but not the least, the sponsored writer, Omair Alvi needs
some memory pills to recall his own story about the two films "Blind
Love" and "Dance Kahani"which he cleverly pitted against each
other in a write up.”
“Dance Kahani and Blind Love were finally released after
repeated delays.
While one managed to take the industry forward,the other failed
miserably
by offering nothing new.”
This is yet another example of a very very poor short-lived
memory of Omair Alvi about “Sawaal 700 crore Ka” who wrote;
“It will make its mark upon release. Just as
the name suggests, the movie is a heist flick, the trailer of which has been
doing the rounds for some time. The trailer suggests that the storyline will be
on the lines of Bollywood’s successful Dhoom franchise...”
”Omair Alvi concludes his write up “Films that have failed us in 2016” with these words: “These people” understand that
filmmaking isn’t as easy as ABC...” Well, Omair, the use of “these people”
doesn’t show your contempt but your ignorance and raises a question mark about
your own qualification or lack of it. Please do have the decency to release
your own degree online for the clarification. You are writing for every other
newspapers and trash blogging about the cinema of Pakistan. It’s time to be
patriotic and next time do see a calendar once you write such a premature piece
with an immature approach. You word “suicide attempt” in the abovementioned
write up bails me out to say you are fit to be a crime reporter but definitely
not a film critic. Prove me wrong, release your credentials!
